Dr. Brajesh Singh, took over the charge of Director of ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute, Shimla on 21.1.2023. Prior to this, he was heading the Division of Crop Physiology, Biotechmistry and Post-Harvest Technology.
Born in Lucknow, UP, India on 16 November 1970, Dr.Brajesh Singh graduated from Lucknow Christian College, Lucknow, 1987-90; obtained M.Sc from Lucknow University, Lucknow, 1990-1992; and earned his Ph.D from Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Awadh University, Faizabad, 1997. Starting his career as Scientist at ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute, Shimla in 1995, he was elevated to the position of Senior Scientist, 2004-2010, and Principal Scientist, 2010-14 and Head, Division of Crop Physiology, Biochemistry and Post-Harvest Technology, 2014 to 2023.
In his career spanning 27 years, Dr. Brajesh, has significantly contributed to post-harvest management of potatoes and was associated with the development and refinement of potato storage and processing technologies. He developed elevated temperature storage for table and processing potatoes. Besides, he developed storage technologies for seed and ware potatoes He is associated with technology of various potato products. He has developed and standardized protocols for nutritional profiling of potatoes. His research has been recognized amongst the peer group resulting in publication of more than 100 research papers and 200 other publications.
He is Fellow of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), 2021, Indian Academy of Horticultural Science, 2019, Indian Society for Plant Physiology (ISPP), 2010; Indian Potato Association (IPA), 2011 and Confederation of Horticulture Association of India (CHAI), 2021. He is recipient of Associateship of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), 2010; Dr. JC Anand Memorial Gold Medal in PHT (HSI), 2018; J.J. Chinoy Gold Medal Award (ISPP) - 2020; Kaushalya Sikka Memorial Team Award, IPA, 2009; ICAR-CPRI Best Worker Award 2014; ICAR-CPRI- Certificate of Appreciation, 2004. He served as Editor-in-Chief, 2017-2021 of Indian Potato Association; IPA-Business Editor 2002-2010; Indian Society for Plant Physiology-Editor and Member Editorial Board (elected) w.e.f. 2013 to 2015.
